The design and operation of a long-baseline underground facility for detecting electron antineutrino bursts are described and data recording an unusual event are interpreted. Cherenkov radiation emitted by the positron in a reaction yielding a neutron and a positron from the interaction of an electron antineutrino and proton is detected. Source direction can be localized by relying on a minimum of four widely separated stations. The status of various stations is indicated. Requirements for intergalactic sensitivity on the part of such a system are mentioned. Four groups of pulses, each 1 microsec wide and separated by roughly 1 msec, are considered possible evidence of a final gravitational collapse, the frequency of which is estimated at one event per spiral galaxy per 30 years.
