The data set obtained by the Archean-Proterozoic Transition Seismic Experiment of 1989 (APT89), aimed at examining deep-earth structure with portable instruments, is described. Particular attention is given to the deployment of portable seismic stations and the data collected. The data can be used to examine properties of the earth' interior in great detail, from the surface of the earth to the core.
