The stability under perturbations of a charged four dimensional stringy black hole arising from gauging a WZW model is studied. The results show the black hole is stable only in the extremal case Q = M. The purpose of the investigation is to analyze the behavior of a four dimensional black hole under geometrical perturbations. The thermodynamical properties are different for black holes obtained from different investigations. The study of perturbations of stringy black holes in two and four dimensions is performed. The results show that the black hole under study is stable under perturbations of the metric only in the extremal case, supporting the conjecture that extremal black holes might be stable 'quantum' ground state for the underlying theory.
