Recent observations confirm the highly relativistic nature of outflows from AGNs and force us to consider even higher values of the Lorentz factor than we had previously imagined. Apparently, jets are accelerated and collimated very close to the black hole: how does Nature do it? I will review theories of jet production and collimation, highlighting current controversies and possible areas of progress. Are jets powered by accretion or by black hole spin? What are they made of? And how to they get focused into the sleek streams we observe?
