Ionized gas in the Galactic center is discussed, emphasizing the Sagittarius A source. The morphology of this gas is described, showing contour plots. The dynamics, chemical abundances, and excitation of the gas is summarized. A possible model for the Galactic center is suggested, indicating the major gaps that still exist in present knowledge of this area.
