Winget et al. (1987) have determined the age of the disk of the Galaxy by a study of the properties of white dwarfs in the solar neighborhood. They obtain an age of 9.3 +/- 2.0 Gyr which is smaller than most other estimates of the age of the Galaxy. Their age is in fact the time since significant star formation started in the solar neighborhood. If the average star formation rate depends on a higher than linear power of the surface gas density, the actual age of the disk could easily be 1 Gyr greater than the estimate of Winget et al. Although this is within the uncertainties of their estimate, it is a systematic effect.
