A relation between the surface field-strengths, B(1), and magnetic moments of AM Herculis systems is proposed, based on the theory that most of these systems have similar white dwarf masses. It is shown that for B(1) greater than B(max) = 4 x 10 to the 7th G, magnetic braking via the white dwarf magnetic field may drive the binary evolution fast enough to cause the effective disappearance of the system. It is suggested that the upper field strength limit in AM Her systems is B(1) greater than or equal to 10 to the 7th G.
