A series of linear polarization maps of the NGC2261/R.Mon nebula taken between 1979 and 1986 is presented, which shows that the nebulosity is more complex than a simple reflection nebula. The 'polarization disc' has undergone quite dramatic changes in orientation within the last decade which suggest that it arises from the scattering of radiation within a dust/gas circumstellar disc from a central source emitting polarized light. There may also be subsidiary effects due to extinction by magnetically aligned grains in the large-scale interstellar disc surrounding R.Mon.
