Theories relating to the architecture, origin, and age of the universe are reviewed. Models for a cooling and expanding universe are supported by such experimental findings as the discovery of 2.7-K thermal radiation and the determination of the cosmological abundances of elements. Measurememts of cosmological heavy nuclei have led to a Galactic age estimation of 7-15 billion years, while astrophysical calculations based upon observed luminosities have led to an age estimation for globular clusters (the oldest objects in the Galaxy) of 13-19 billion years old. Implications of the Big Bang theory are considered.
