A three-dimensional statistical analysis of the distribution of cometary aphelia in the near regions of the solar system (distances from the sun, 50-4000 AU) has revealed the existence of eight comet families that obey a modified Bode's law for giant planets. Three of the comet families (93, 320, and 1100 AU) have been investigated in detail. A hypothesis concerning the origin of these comet families is proposed.
