A general model formed by the merging of eight octants from ellipsoids having different semiaxes, constrained by adjacent octants having two equal semiaxes in common, is presently employed to systematically analyze the influence of large-scale deviations from triaxial ellipsoidal shapes on asteroidal photometric lightcurves. The results reveal intriguing analogies with puzzling lightcurves obtained from observations of real asteroids. The variation of lightcurve morphology with aspect angle, in particular, can lead to changes in the number of extrema and/or their inversion. This may imply an incorrect estimate of the rotation period and spin axis direction parameters.
