γ-ray bursts are supposed to be connected with nuclear explosions under the surface of a neutron star due to chain reaction of fission of superheavy nuclei. Optical emission accompanying γ-ray bursts is produced by the expanding cloud of hot iron plasma illuminated by γ-ray emission of the neutron star. Parameters of the observed optical flash from the error box of 5 March 1979 are modelled theoretically and the estimate of the ratio Lopt/Lγ ≅ 5×10-4 is obtained.
