Observational data on plerions and combined supernova remnants with a central pulsar are discussed. It is shown how the expression Et/V, where Et is the pulsar's energy loss rate, t is the pulsar age, and V is the plerion volume, can be used as an indicator of evolutionary age. This expression is used to represent four remnants with pulsars as a single evolutionary sequence of uniform objects. It is possible that the hypothetical pulsar in 3C 58 differs from pulsars similar in age in the Crab nebula and in 0540-693 because of its lower energy loss rate. The evolutionary status of the Crab nebula and of the synchrotron X-ray nebulae surrounding radio pulsars is discussed. The existence of old large plerions devoid of any signs of a shell can be explained by their localization in an environment having a density of 0.01/cu cm.
