The fringe of the Local Group lies somewhere a little beyond 1 Mpc from the center of mass. Galaxies near and beyond the fringe have received relatively little attention compared to the nearer, Local Group members. This poster describes the properties of two very different dwarf galaxies just beyond the fringe, KK83 and KK256 (Karachentseva & Karachentsev 1998, A&AS, 127, 409). KK83 is morphologically very much like Local Group dwarf spheroidals in structure and it has a population that is dominated by very old stars. On the other hand, KK256 is morphologically similar to Local Group dwarf irregular galaxies, such as IC 1613. It has no bar, but consists of an irregular arrangement of old stars upon which are superimposed eight regions containing younger stars and H ii regions.
