The reality of the predicted gap between the main-sequence population and stable helium-burning stars in the case of massive stars on the LMC is examined to test whether uncertainties in the reddening corrections applied to the stars in this sample could possibly mask such a gap, which might be present in the intrinsic sample. It is concluded that the gap should be visible, if present in the intrinsic sample, regardless of any uncertainties in the reddening corrections. The fact that the gap is absent from the data seems to indicate that a mixed population of helium-enriched and ordinary stars is present in this region of the H-R diagram, since this would predict a uniform stellar population, without any gap, in this region. Some immediate consequences of the presence of such a mixed population of stars are examined.
