During the commissioning of FUSE, we have obtained 20 km/sec resolution spectra of the bright QSO H1821+643 (z=0.2966) in the wavelength interval 1000-1185 Angstroms/. Complex OVI 1032 absorption arising in gas above several spiral arms and the outer warp of our Galaxy is strongly detected. We also report detections of other interstellar species including Fe II and molecular hydrogen. The QSO resides in a rich cluster of galaxies, and intrinsic absorption has been detected in Lyα , CIII 977, Si IV 1400, OVI 1032 and Lyγ at the QSO redshift with HST (Savage et al. 1995, ApJ 449, 145; Shull et al., in press). We report FUSE detections of absorption in the higher members of the Lyman series (Lyδ , Lyɛ , Lyζ ) for a known IGM absorber at z=0.2249. We are investigating several unidentified lines in the FUSE spectrum, which may belong to one of these absorption systems, or to an uncataloged absorber. The FUSE results will be discussed within the framework of previous work carried out in the UV with HST/GHRS/FOS/STIS. This work is supported by NASA contract NAS5-32985.
