We build a simple clustering model which allows us to investigate the typical properties of clumps causing the small-scale correlation among galaxies found in a large fraction of rich, relaxed clusters (see Paper I). We find that clumps partake of the same morphology as is commonly assigned to cluster cores. This is therefore consistent with clumps being remnants of tightly bound cluster cores detached at the moment of cluster merging and not fully erased by the subsequent violent relaxation. This result adds new evidence that most rich galaxy clusters are young dynamical systems.
