Systematic studies on the chromatographic behavior of capillary columns which were developed for analyzing complex gas mixtures, the chemical composition of which is analogous to Titan atmosphere and aerosol pyrolyzates, are described. These include permanent gases, C1-C6 hydrocarbons, C1-C4 nitriles, and CH(N) pyrolyzites. The tested columns are made of fused silica tubing (0.1 to 0.53 mm ID). They include 'PLOT' (Porous Layer Open Tubular) columns (internally covered by a porous layer of adsorbent material) and WCOT (Wall Coated Open Tubular) columns (internally covered by a liquid stationary phase which is chemically bonded to the wall of the fused silica tubing). For each tested column, Van Deemter Curves were determined.
