The prime objective of the pioneering Ulysses mission is to explore and characterize the heliosphere over the full range of solar latitudes. The present status and plans for the prime Ulysses mission, which is defined to end after the northern polar pass in 1995, is discussed. A scenario is presented for a potential extended mission covering another orbit around the sun.
