The evaporation of preexisting grains together with grain condensation around the supernova SN1987A is examined. The time of mixing of the condensed dust with preexisting dust is predicted with a view to undertaking observations with future instrumentation such as the Infra-Red Space Observatory and the Shuttle Infra-Red Telescope Facility. The results are consistent with observations to date.
