A re-examination of photometric transformation theory was performed in order to determine the importance of higher-order terms which depend on high-order central moments of the passband response profiles. High-order terms in extinction corrections decrease with decreasing passband width. However, in general transformations between systems high-order terms are independent of the bandwidth and transformation errors due to neglected high-order terms may be as large for narrowband photometry and spectrophotometry as for wideband systems. The need for quartic transformations is independent of spectral resolution.
