PSR 0611+22 is an isolated, "normal" (period P=0.335 s) radio pulsar with an average profile made of just one, nearly perfectly Gaussian component. Rankin (1990) classified this pulsar as "core single", while Lyne and Manchester (1988) put it into the "cone-dominated" category. This object has been known for many years to exhibit very large timing noise (e.g. Cordes and Helfand 1980, Cordes and Downs 1985). Previous analysis of our Arecibo observations at 430 MHz demonstrated that PSR 0611+22 exhibits quite regular but at the same time very unusual mode switching, in which both modes last 800-1200 single pulses, and in both of them the average profile is nearly perfectly Gaussian but with a different width, brightness, and phase (Nowakowski 1992). That mode switching explains almost entirely the timing noise reported earlier by other authors. Preliminary analysis of our latest Arecibo observations at 430 MHz, with improved time resolution, strongly indicates that the average profile is triple, which may explain the unusual mode switching reported earlier.
