We use a high resolution spectroscopic technique called Zeeman Doppler imaging to obtain magnetic field maps of the surface of AB Doradus, a rapidly rotating K0 dwarf. The magnetic topology of AB Doradus can be explained in terms of a potential field using observations taken over three years. We discuss what the implications are of these potential field maps towards understanding the types of activity cycles operating in young, active late-type stars.
