The 10" scale jet of M 87 was imaged in X-rays in the zeroth order of a 40 ks High Energy Transmission Grating Spectrometer (HETGS) observation. Each of the knots A, B1, C, D (east), and F are clearly detected. There is X-ray emission upstream of knot E but the peak is not coincident with the peak of the optical and radio emission. Knot A is aligned with the peak of the optical and radio emission, not the leading edge. The knot closest to the nucleus, HST-1, is also detected and is about as bright as knot D (east). Dispersed HETGS spectra and ACIS spectra from the knots show no evidence of emission lines. Spectral fits and emission models will be discussed in the context of synchrotron and inverse Compton models of the X-ray emission. This work was funded in part by contract SAO SV1-61010 and NASA contract NAS8-39073.
