The status of acquired knowledge and present research on novae is surveyed briefly. Data on particular novae (Nova Scuti 1975 V 373 Sct, N. Monocerotis 1975 V 616 Mon, N. Cygni 1975 V 1500 Cyg) discovered in 1975 are preceded by a succinct history of nova discoveries. Outstanding puzzles in nova physics are outlined (place in evolution, thermonuclear processes at work, pre-novae and post-novae, and physics of nova expanding shells). The status of speculation on the nature of the compact object associated with V 616 Mon (white dwarf, neutron star, black hole,) and records set by the brightness rise and decay of V 1500 Cyg are discussed. A possible relationship between the behavior of V 1500 Cyg and phases of supernova behavior is posited.
