The photographic evidence of a short-duration dark feature on Venus, observed on May 18, 1988 is reported. Nine consecutive photographs exhibiting a ring structure are examined, and the possibility of a film defect or interference from an artificial earth satellite or interplanetary object is ruled out. It is concluded that the feature is the signature of an event that took place on the upper haze layer of the Venusian atmosphere. This event is classified as the impact of a small cometlike object consisting mainly of water; the impact caused evaporation of the sol H2SO4 particles of the upper haze layer and, consequently a decrease of the albedo of the region around the point of entrance of the comet in the Venusian cloud layers. This region of the lower albedo appears as the observed dark feature.
