Spectra covering the wavelength range between 6800 and 7500 A with a dispersion of 225 A/mm were obtained for 80 galaxies of high surface brightness. Thirty-five of these galaxies are found to exhibit emission lines in their spectra; all show the H-alpha line, and this is accompanied by forbidden S II and N II emission in most cases. Redshifts and absolute magnitudes are determined for the 35 emission-line galaxies. It is noted that 21 of 32 blue galaxies observed exhibit emission lines, while only six of 34 red galaxies contain emission lines in their spectra.
