As a follow-up of an HST snapshot survey of nearby dwarf galaxy candidates (Seitzer et al., BAAS 31, 1379, 1999), we have obtained emission line images of 26 objects with the Apache Point Observatory 3.5-m telescope. Approximately half of the candidates have detectable HII regions. Our aim is to use the images to measure the star formation rates for the galaxies and to select targets for future spectroscopy for abundance determinations. One of the candidates, KK26, is not a dwarf galaxy, but a Galactic bipolar planetary nebula. Support for this work was provided by NASA through a grant from the Space Telescope Science Institute, which is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc., under NASA contract NAS5-26555
