We propose imaging and spectroscopy of the ejecta-dominated (O-rich) supernova remnant (SNR) G292.0+1.8, which has been far less studied than Cas A, the prototype of this class in the Galaxy. The higher angular resolution interference filter imagery that we will obtain with SOAR will enable detailed studies of the morphology of the SNR, which from our earlier 0.9 meter imagery are known to include examples of Rayleigh- Taylor instabilities, in comparison to high resolution X-ray and radio imagery that is available. Our spectroscopic goals, are to study a few key filaments revealed from earlier imagery, all made up of pure SN ejecta, to probe the diversity of chemical composition found in these remnants of core-collapse SNe. We will cover the entire spectral range where CCDs are usable to obtain deep spectra and measure the relative abundances of most of the important elements for nucleosynthesis, from C through Fe and Ni. This program complements an approved Spitzer program for IR spectroscopy of the same filaments.
