Observations of the Northern Hubble Deep Field with WFPC2 and NICMOS provide important constraints on models of galaxy formation. This data provides values for redshift, extinction and intrinsic spectral energy distribution for each galaxy in the field. From this information several observational constraints can be constructed. These include the classical number versus magnitude plots plus the total luminosity function as a function of redshift. The two Kaufmann and Charlot tests are also constructed and a new constraint based on the specific star formation intensity will also be presented. Given the sensitivity of the HDF observations the constraints can be projected back to a redshift of six which includes most of the star formation history of the universe. This research was funded in part by a grant from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration under the Hubble Space Telescope Program.
