We present results from our cycle 10 HST program to search for transition region emission in very low mass stars. Our program is aimed at 1) detecting emission; and 2) distinguishing between flaring and persistent origin for the emission. Observations of our first target, VB8 (dM7e), comprise a sequence of 15 exposures with STIS, each of 5 minute duration. Our preliminary analysis indicates that we detect C IV and He I emission during only one of the exposures. This supports the hypothesis that transition region emission occurs as the result of transient flare activity in very low mass stars. This research was made possible by grant HST-GO-9090 from the Space Telescope Science Institute, operated by AURA for NASA.
