Attention is given to the origin of the discrepancies which arise in solving, either in the magnetohydrodynamic or two-fluid approximations, the problem of thermal instability in a radiating magnetized homogeneous plasma in the case of an arbitrary angle between the wave vector and the equilibrium magnetic field. In the former approximation the displacement current is disregarded, but this assumption is at variance with the system of two-fluid plasma equations. It is shown that, in the case of plasma motions approximately perpendicular to the magnetic field, the region of overstable perturbations may be wider than in the case of motions strictly perpendicular to the field.
