Aside from the well-known nuclear outflows observed in some starburst galaxies, edge-on spiral galaxies can also display considerable activity between the disk and halo far from the nucleus. HI observations are particularly important for understanding the kinematics and energetics of these regions. This talk will focus on the broad scale HI structure of galaxies in the z direction as well as the discrete features (sometimes seen as supershells) which span the disk-halo interface. Infall/outflow scenarios, energetics, and the possibility of lagging halos will also be discussed. This research is supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.
