The impact of measurements in the 10 micron to 1 cm wavelength region on knowledge about the nucleus of our galaxy (the central few hundred parsecs) is discussed. Determination of energetics, physical conditions, and dynamics in the nucleus through spectroscopic observations of interstellar matter is emphasized. Phenomena found in the galactic nucleus are reviewed. The basic interpretation of line radiation is considered. Observations of interstellar clouds at scales of several hundred parsecs, of the giant cloud and star formation region Sgr B2, and of the galactic center (Sgr A) itself are treated.
