The Tc abundance in the atmospheres of S and C stars is determined from spectra in the visible range. A comparison is made between regions of the synthetic spectrum containing the Tc 5924.47 A line and observed high-dispersion spectra. It is found that a reliable determination is possible only for pure S and SC stars. For late carbon stars, the upper limit to the Tc abundance can be estimated. For TX Psc (C6.5), this amounts to lg epsilon (Tc) = 0.5.
