The amount of structure present among the Abell clusters out to redshift z = 0.085 is compared with numerical supercomputer simulations of the isothermal, neutrino, and cold particle models for large-scale structure, assuming a flat universe and H = 50 km/s/Mpc. The simulation techniques used in the modeling are discussed, and the Abell cluster sample used is described. The identification of rich clusters in the Omega = 1.0 neutrino, cold particle, and isothermal models and the results of three different comparison tests between the models and observations are addressed. The results of similar comparisons between observations and two cold particle simulations with Omega greater than 1.0 are considered. It is found that none of the three popular models are able to generate large-scale structure comparable to that observed among the Abell clusters.
