Comets: Capture
Scientific paper
The gravitational capture by planets of comets moving into the solar
system with velocity V∞ from a radiant that coincides
with the apex of the Sun's peculiar motion is considered. Equations are
derived that describe the elements of the cometary orbits as functions
of the planet's longitude. The theory is compared with observations.
