A finite element analysis was used to determine whether the pointing and tracking performance of the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope could be improved by stiffening the center section. Corner tie strain gage measurements were taken on the center section. Results show that pointing and tracking performance would not be improved by stiffening the telescope center section.
