Low-spectral-resolution spectroscopy has been used to map the emission line and continuum variations of NGC 5253 at a high SNR. Point-to-point fluctuations in extinction and line ratios greater than the errors have been measured. An enrichment of nitrogen in the central region (by a factor of 1.8 with respect to the mean N abundance of the surrounding) is associated with a broad 4686-A feature, indicating the presence of WR stars. He(+)/H is shown to correlate better with N/O than with N/H for pixels in the central region with enhanced N/H abundance. A high carbon abundance with a C/O abundance ratio of about 0.10 is noted, suggesting that WC stars may also be present in the starburst.
