The deterministic aspect of the cosmos is discussed in terms of the potential indeterminacy inherent in evolving systems featuring irreversible processes. Instabilities exist in the fundamental states of equilibrium of physical systems. Stability is annihilated by the instabilities at some point (a discontinuity), and a bifurcation appears. The alteration is nondeterministic, i.e., gives rise to a random result. Attention is given to the homogeneous isotropic geometries of a Friedmann universe in terms of a quadratic Stokes regime. Locations of singular points are identified and reveal singularities after the Big Bang, indicating a bifurcation and the appearance of a nondeterministic history for the universe.
