Some evidence for a spike of light in the center of the elliptical galaxy NGC 3379 is presented. This is based on the fact that the central surface brightness increases with increasing resolution, independent of any model assumed to fit the luminosity profile of the rest of the galaxy. The central luminosity profile does not fit an isothermal model. It is well described by a Young's (1980) model of a star cluster having an isotropic velocity dispersion and containing a black hole of mass 1 - 2 x 10 to the 8th solar mass, although other interpretations of the data are possible. It is suggested that the same kind of phenomenon is present in the centers of NGC 3379 and M87, but at different scales.
