We propose to derive in a thorough self-consistent analysis of the ultraviolet and optical data the photospheric elemental abundances of the Population II A type star HD 109995. The use of IUE data will allow a more complete coverage of the periodic table than is possible with the optical spectra alone and also will allow consistency checks between the two wavelength domains. Comparison with the results of our previous studies of Population I B and A stars and with the predictions of astrophysical theories will yield information on the mixing of CNO processed material into the stellar envelope during red-qiant stage evolution and on the nucleosynthetic evolution of heavier elements and enrichment of the interstellar medium prior to and after the formation of HD 109995. Study of the interstellar lines will tell about the interstellar gas in a direction nearly perpendicular to the Galactic plane as well as reveal any slight reddening of this star. The statistical quality of the individuaql images must be improved to justify exhaustive quantitative analysis and thus we propose to obtain at least three high dispersion images at each of several exposure levels in SWP and in LWR.
