Telescope and spectrograph design for the Columbus ultraviolet astronomy
satellite are described. A 1m mirror two-piece glancing incidence
telescope design is suggested. A classical Rowland spectrograph is
potentially the only design with efficiencies great enough to deliver
the 100 sqcm net collecting area specified from a manageable telescope.
