The authors analyze a sample of 7 stars, observed with IUE at high resolution, belonging to spectral subtypes A0 to A4, searching for the resonance lines of Si IV (1400 Å) and C IV (1550 Å) and also for the doublet of He II (1640 Å). Even if these lines may be present in an A type atmosphere as very weak lines, it seems that the major spectral features in the corresponding spectral regions are blends of metallic lines. This brings more evidence for the absence of transition regions in A type IV - V stars, as also stated by other papers in the literature.
