Radio observations are presented of the nearby, wide double source 3C 310 which show intricate fine-scale radio structure (shells and filaments) embedded in diffuse, low-brightness lobes. These features have longitudinal magnetic fields and an exceptionally high percentage of linear polarization. The balloon-shaped morphology of some of these features suggests that they may be the edge-brightened boundaries of 'bubbles' of hot gas which are blown up by weak jets and are surrounded by magnetic fields. Long filamentary features could be remnants of burst bubbles. Recent theoretical models have shown that relatively low power nuclei of galaxies may release their energy in the form of such bubbles as a result of jet choking or other instabilities. It is suggested that a similar phenomenon might be triggered in higher luminosity elliptical galaxies by gas infall caused by tidal interaction with a nearby galaxy. Sufficient energy generation in these bubbles may be a problem, however.
