The authors suggest that, in the context of Ionson's electrodynamic coupling theory of coronal heating, the coupling efficiency may pass through a resonance in lower main-sequence stars. It is proposed that this resonance contributes to the strong observed X-ray emission in early-M dwarfs. In the coolest M dwarfs, the efficiency is expected to decrease rapidly as conditions move away from resonance.
