Radial pulsation and the propagation of acoustic pulses generated at the He+ ionization zone are investigated for radiative stellar envelopes in the linear nonadiabatic approximation. A pulse resonance condition is shown to be satisfied for models near the P2:P0 resonance of the Cepheid instability strip, and the time of arrival of the reflected pulse is shown to be in qualitative agreement with the properties of bump Cepheids of different periods.
