Is extraterrestrial intelligence abundant in our Galaxy, is it sparsely populated, or are we really on our own? Astronomers have widely differing views on the subject. However, searchers for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) have been carried out, and some very comprehensive surveys are planned for the coming decade, but there are many problemns, as described in the paper.
