The effects induced by viscosity on the equations governing spherical, transsonic flows are discussed. It is shown that viscosity changes the topology of solutions, replacing the critical point of the inviscid regime with a subcritical one. The quantitative relevance of turbulent dissipation is evaluated in the case of spherical accretion onto a black hole.
