We have mapped a sample of more than 50 massive dense GMC clumps with multiple dense gas tracers (HCN 1-0, 3-2, CS 2-1, 5-4, 7-6) with single-dish telescopes, to study the general physical properties of massive dense clumps, and to analyses the different behavior between these tracers. A nearly linear correlation has been found between the infrared luminosity and the molecular line luminosity of all these dense gas tracers for massive dense clumps; some correlations extend to extragalactic scales.
We have started a project to use the SMA to follow-up a subset sample of these massive dense clumps, most of which are best infall candidates from our single-dish study, to explore the density structure and internal dynamics of individual massive dense clumps.
